Percy and Simpson lead the Star class into the medal race

[Source: ISAF] With an eight point lead over 2012 World Champions Robert Scheidt and Bruno Prada (BRA) and Fredrik Loof and Max Salminen (SWE) a further four points back all that is left to decide is the colour of their medals.

“It’s going to be an incredible spectacle. Three places – which is all our lead is – is pretty small in a Medal Race,” said Percy. “It’s incredibly frustrating that myself and Andrew have probably sailed the best we ever have and we can’t get any distance on them. It’s so unusual in the Star class to have three boats dominating.

“I’d rather be 20 points ahead. I don’t think we could have done much more to have a bigger lead. We are being matched every step of the way by the other two.”

Scheidt and Prada picked up a bullet and a third in today’s racing to close the gap on their rivals and split the tie with Loof and Salminen. The Swedish team finished second and sixth to take 30 points into the Medal Race.

The Star Medal Race takes place on the Nothe Course at 13:00 local time on Sunday 5 August.
