[Source: City of Alameda] Artemis Racing, Challenger of Record for the 34th America’s Cup representing the Royal Swedish Yacht Club, will land on the shores of the City of Alameda in preparation for the 34th America’s Cup, which will be held on the San Francisco Bay in 2013.
“Alameda offers convenient shoreline water access to our racing grounds in San Francisco Bay immediately next to large industrial warehouse space. It is a turn-key option which will allow us to operate efficiently and immediately in 2012. We all look forward to settling in for this season and making the most of the facility,” said Paul Cayard, CEO of Artemis Racing. Artemis will be leasing a 110,000 square foot former airplane hangar as its base of operations at Alameda Point.
“We are honored that some of the most elite sailors in the world, commandeering the fastest sailing vessels, have chosen to make Alameda their home port,” said Mayor Marie Gilmore. “We enthusiastically welcome the 70-member Artemis Team and their families to our community, where they will find great schools, walkable neighborhoods, excellent restaurants, as well as day-to-day services to comfortably meet their needs.”

“Alameda is the maritime village of the Bay Area,” said City Manager John Russo. “We have over 100 maritime-related businesses, ranging from custom-makers of sails and submersibles, to full-service shipyards that repair ferry boats and super-yachts.”
Alameda is a natural destination for those who wish to watch the 34th America’s Cup events. These spectacular races will be within a close range and easily visible from multiple public viewing areas around the Bay. Alameda has been identified as an official launching point for accessing the races, with expanded service from its ferry terminals. Visitors may round out their race day experiences with a wide assortment of recreational, entertainment, or dining options in Alameda.
